BIKESTYLE HANDICAP ROUND 2 REPORT (21 May 2009)
by Steve Shimmin

Got the handicapping wrong………again. Maybe the scratch group have the measure of me for now but I will return!

Another good race tonight although numbers slightly down, perhaps some competitors are saving their legs for the Mountain TT this Sunday.

The scratch group certainly out foxed the handicapper tonight and rode very strongly to claw back an extended handicap. Chris Nicholson (MRC) took the honors comfortably in the final gallop from Graeme Hatcher (MVW), Marty Warren (MVW), Tom Black (MRC) and Rob Dooley (MVW) this quintet having broken a few seconds clear in the final kilometer.

'Chapeau’ to the long markers group who held off the charging peleton until the Cronk on the final lap with Messrs Crossley (MVW), Beattie (EVCC), and Wilson (MRC) gritting their teeth into a headwind down the Jurby Coast Road John Turner (EVCC) having being dropped a little earlier.

Pete Gage carries the leaders jersey into Round 3 having mashalled this week so defending his lead without competing…could this be crucial to the series result? We shall see.

The handicaps will be scrutinized seriously before the next round on 9 July.
