The winner of the Litespeed Mira
raffle was MVW's Vice Chairman, Phil Knights. The draw took
place at the CA Dinner and the winning ticket was drawn by Graeme
Obree. The Berry family would like to thank everyone who bought
raffle tickets which raised £1200. £550 was raised on the
James Berry Sportive held earlier that day and the auction of the
Graeme Obree photographs meant that the total amount raised last
Saturday for the James Berry Fund was in excess of £2000. This
fund benefits young, up and coming cyclists. |

James Smettem (TMT), Neil Bellhouse
(TMT) and Gianni Epifani (MVW) all achieved big personal bests, when
taking part in Time Trial events in the UK over the weekend. Firstly,
riding in the Wigan Wheelers 10 on the L1015 course in Cumbria,
Gianni broke 21 minutes for the first time recording 20:36, James was
also sub 21 in a time of 20:55 and Neil improved his personal best by
12 seconds riding 21:22.
The second event was the Port
Talbot Wheelers 25 on the fast R25/3L course in South Wales with
118 starters. James recorded a time of 52:24, a 6 minute
improvement on his previous best. This time was good enough for second
position in the overflow event that run alongside the main
competition. Gianni’s time was 52:56, which was good enough for 50th
position in the main event. These personal best times are
knocking on the door of Andy Cook's native Manx record of 52:05. Neil
Bellhouse also had a very good ride, recording a time of 54:21, which
gave him 6th position in the overflow event. The main event
was won by Irish International Dave McCann, who broke Chris Boardman's
British record with an astonishing 45:54, taking 3 seconds off the old
record.

Several Isle of Man riders took
part in the TLI National Road Race Championships on
Sunday 19th July at Llandyrnog,
Wales. The Manx riders did well competing in a range of age groups
covering various distances. The most notable result was a win by
MVW member, Graeme Hatcher. His race included riders from the
U23 to 40 age group and was held over a distance of 50 miles - 5 laps
of the Denbigh circuit. Graeme attacked on the first lap, taking
another rider with him. They managed to stay away until the end
with Graeme winning by approximately 4 minutes.

TLI have updated their website with
the
winners of the categories, but there are no results for any other
competitors.

Respect to Joe
Kelly a few turns he did make,
Cav the born winner. There is no mistake,
Newcomer Floyd Wilson amongst ladies he took,
Rode like a champion. He was cock-a-hoop!
Andy Howland returns, nice to see him on track,
Bubbles, Kirkwood and Ronan as they hung on the back!
Livesey passing the Ladies and fuelled by his chance
Showed how he could do it. Even win Tour de France!
Dooley and Nicholson and Hatcher were there,
Warren and Kennaugh -immense, and showing their flair,
Laura Wasley became the first lady to finish,
Her triumph that no one could ever diminish.
Mazonne was the first juvenile past the post,
News of his success travelled from coast to coast,
Whorral departed. It looked game over by then,
The Bride Handicap race? It's on the map once again.
The day was for Joe Kelly. The 'Bride' winner supreme,
Winning the Bride Handicap is no longer a dream.

The first round of the IOM CA Road
Race Series, the Tour of the Middle, was won by Andrew Roche in the A
race, with Peter Gage (MRC) second and Marty Warren (MVW) third.
The B race honours went to Russell Collister (EVCC). Graham
Stigant (EVCC) was a close second and third place went to John
Marchment (MMBC). Many thanks to all those who helped out today
- the marshals, lead car drivers, Carrie Wernham for first aid cover,
the time keeper and organisers.

B race report:
A small B group
containing mostly novices and veterans (some of the juniors were off
Island) contested 6 laps. Russell Collister, David Glover and Graham
Stigant set the pace in the opening laps, applying constant pressure
on each of the climbs, resulting in the group breaking up after half
way. John Marchment (Manx Mountain Bike Club) was the last to succumb
to the pace at the top of Red Lion Hill, |

leaving the Ellan Vannin pairing of Collister and Stigant to work together to the
finish. Collister got the better of Stigant on the final climb up to
the flag to take the win. Marchment came in third. |
