Entries are still being accepted until Friday for the Microgaming Sporting Time Trial taking place this Sunday. All marshal slots have been filled, so if finding a marshal was putting you off entering this event please let Gary Hinds (492666) or Brian Johnson (495684) know by phone that you would like to take part. The course has been altered slightly - at the top of Round Table, riders will turn right and continue down the Sloc and then turn left towards Colby.

Viking Wheelers U23 riders were recently presented with some funding
towards their racing expenses for 2010. Joe Kelly, Colum O’Shea, Adam
Johnson and Tom Mazzone were each presented with a cheque for £250 which
was made possible by the generous sponsorship that the Club has received
from their sponsors, Shoprite. All of them have ridden for Microgaming
Team Isle of Man at various races in England, Wales and Ireland. The
Club is proud to be able to support these talented young riders who have
been very successful racing on and off the Island and have been
excellent ambassadors of the Club over this year. 
July’s
member of the month award has been presented to Dave Mudie who
has been timekeeper for the entire Bikestyle 10 League and all the MVW
events held this year. Thank you Dave for always being there at the
start/finish with a cheerful disposition no matter what the weather!
Round 13 Results of the Bikestyle 10 mile time trial league.
The 3 up 25 mile Time Trial is taking place on Sunday, 25
July with the first team off at
9am. The course is not as advertised due to the continued road works
in the North and will take place on the
Killane 25
course which starts and finishes near Jurby Junk. Sign on will take
place at Jurby Parish Hall between 8:15 and 8:45.
Please send your team entries (ie three TLI forms in one envelope) to Brian Johnson at Cintra, Alexandra Drive, Douglas, IM2 3QX, mobile 495684 by Wednesday, 21 July as there are no entries on the line. Category prizes will be awarded for those riding as Club Teams. Entry fees for each rider are as follows: TLI members Seniors - £12, Juniors - £9, Juveniles - £7 and non TLI members Seniors - £13, Juniors - £10 and Juveniles - £8. Refreshments will be available to competitors and marshals after the event.

Holiday weekend, Sunday, 29 August. The day will kick off with a
sporty club ride and cafe stop where refreshments will be laid on.
Route and cafe TBC. The presentation will take place in the
evening at Bordello Winebar and Nightclub. Nibbles will be provided and
for those who want to let their hair down and "swing their pants" there
will be dancing late into the night. If you wish to attend either
of these events kindly contact Gav at Bikestyle on 673576 or Steve
Shimmin on 475341 by Friday, 20 August for catering purposes.
Gianni Epifani is June's Member of the Month following his
success at the 100mile Time Trial on the 12 June and his consistently
good results in the 10 mile Time Trial league. Gianni receives a
£50 cheque.Joe Kelly has finished third overall in the final stage of the Junior Tour of Island.

Joe
Kelly was a fine second in the recent Junior Race, held at
Curborough Sprint Circuit near Lichfield.
At 3/4 distance
three riders broke away from the main bunch. Joe was then part
of a splintered group of four riders that were chasing down the
break away, as the race reached the final stages that chasing
group was then further reduced to two riders as the pace was
high. Joe and his fellow chasing partner caught the group with a
couple of laps to go, and Joe went straight into the lead,
closely followed by Simon Yates, who was one of the three
original breakaways. They managed to build a lead of over ten
seconds from the chasing pack. It came down to a final sprint to
the finish, where Joe was just outgunned by Yates. Fellow Team
IOM Rider Chris Nicholson finished in the main bunch, with
Thomas Mazzone a further few minutes behind. Adam Johnson
retired midway through due to the very hot temperature and
intensity of the race pace.

May's
Member of the Month is Junior member Joe Kelly. Joe has won
Round 6 of the Bikestyle 10 league and had a good result while racing
away with Team Isle of Man in Jersey. And all that while writing
his AS exams. Joe receives a £50 cheque.15 June 2010

Gianni Epifani took part in the Burton and District Cycling Alliance 100 Mile Time Trial on Saturday, 12 June. The course on the A50 between Uttoxeter and Stoke on Trent was flat and conditions were favourable. Gianni managed to come in well under the 4 hour barrier, with a time of 3hours 54minutes and 38seconds, which if ratified is a new native record. Gianni was 22nd in a field of 122, of which over a quarter failed to finish. The event was won by UTAG Yamaha.com's Julian Jenkinson in a time of 3 hours 37 minutes. Rumour has it that this was Gianni's last 100miler. Well done on an excellent result.

Roche, riding for EVCC won today's Tour of the Middle road race
held over the hilly Stuggadhoo course. He was part of a five man break
early on in the race consisting of fellow club rider, Darren Bell and
three MVW riders namely Bubbles, Elliot Baxter and Christian Varley.
The five riders managed to build up and maintain a lead of over
three minutes on the chasing pack. On the last lap Roche and Varley
formed a breakaway pair as they approached Red Lion Hill junction. Roche
made the all important break as they climbed Stuggadhoo hill for the
final time and time trialled his way to victory, to win by a clear
margin, over Varley. Bubbles crossed the line in third place, out
sprinting Bell and Baxter. Jonathon Cregeen was the first junior over
the line.TMT's Peter Kennaugh Snr and juvenile RL360 riders Jake Kelly and Alex Haddock made a break on the third lap of the B race and managed to keep the 16 strong chasing pack at bay for the rest of the race. Peter crossed the line first followed by Jake and then Alex. Eve O'Hare was the winning lady of the day.
The C race had a good entry of eight riders. Rob Dooley, an
experienced
road race rider recovering from a recent illness, rode with the group
offering advice to the novice riders. Julian Sutton (EVCC) out sprinted
juvenile RL360 riders Matt Davies and Andrew Reeday.
Cash prizes sponsored by MVW and Bikestyle sponsored goodie bags were presented to the winners of each category, the first junior and the first lady. Thanks to the big team of helpers and marshals who assisted in making the event run as smoothly as it did. And last but not least, MVW are grateful to Bubbles for the loan of the lead Elite Vehicles car for the A race.

It was a successful weekend for
Wheelers’ members – some (Andrew Cook, Steve Brennan, Honks and Roger Raatgever) took part in the
Manx Tri Club’s first Triathlon of the year.
And several also took part in the Roy Killey Memorial Road Race. Bubbles’ had his first A race win ever, with Darren Bell (EVCC) taking second place and Junior rider Adam Johnson taking third. Tom Mazzone, Joe Kelly and Marty Warren (all MVW riders) were the next to cross the line. |

 Congratulations to our April Member of the Month – Adam Johnson. Adam has had some good rides this year, but his gutsy ride during the second Junior Road Race for the IOM Youth Tour, proved he was worthy of being named our Member of the Month and receives a £50 cheque. Adam worked selflessly for Team IOM Migrogaming Team Member, Chris Nicholson who was able to take second place for that race. Adam finished a very credible eighth. |

The Wheelers currently have some very talented young members, some of whom are competing in this weekend's IOM Youth Tour. Joe Kelly, Tom Mazzone and Adam Johnson will be riding for Team Isle of Man Microgaming. Warwick Sanderson and Jack Wolstencroft will be in MVW colours.
They have a tough weekend ahead of them starting off with a 1.29km time trial on Douglas Prom on Friday night. Next is a 102.7km road race on closed roads around Peel on Saturday morning. And then another 92.6km road race on the Bride Circuit on Sunday morning. The racing is likely to be extremely competitive with 74 riders from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Holland entered in the Junior category. Very best of luck to Joe, Tom, Adam, Warwick and Jack and all the other riders taking part in this weekend's racing!

Nicholson (TMT), pictured left ,won today's Crowe Morgan Tour of the
West A race. He was also the fastest Junior of the day. Newcomers,
Graham Saunders and Mark Kelly (MVW), pictured below, crossed the line
together after making an early break in the B race. The C race was
won by Team Royal London 360 rider, Matt Davies. MVW's Eve O'Hare was
the fastest lady of the day. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery to
James Smettem following his crash on the second lap. A big thank
you to all (marshals, timekeepers,
photographers,
first aider, organisers, lead cars, neutral service cars) who helped out
today. Please would all marshal bibs be returned to Brian Johnson as
soon as possible.

Information for the Bikestyle Handicap is now available. The series will take place on 13 and 27 May, 17 June, 8 July, 5 and 19 August. Entries for the series close on the 10 May. Your entry should be sent to Steve Shimmin on a TLI entry form. Cheques should be made out to IOM CA.
Entrants should send their names to Steve Shimmin by email or phone 475341. Entry fees of £5 should be sent to 4 Birch Hill Gardens, IM3 4ET. Cheques made payable to Ellan Vannin CC. Refreshments and grub after the ride. Hopefully Paris Roubaix will be on TV live. The entry fee will be used to cover the costs of the hall and food etc. If there is a surplus, a donation will be made to the James Berry Memorial Fund.
Steve has asked that as many as possible turn out so that he can use this ride as a ‘working model’ on which to base a proper race in the future.
Eleven year old Conor Davies, pictured left, will ride one lap of the TT course on Saturday 3rd April to raise money for the Jonny Bellis Fund. Conor will ride the course without stopping and hopes to complete the course in around three hours. If anybody would like to sponsor Conor, please contact his step father Gianni Epifani on 482942.

Husband and wife team,
Tony and Wendy Fallon were the fastest mixed team. Many thanks
to all those who assisted with the marshalling, timekeeping and
catering. Best wishes from us all to Micky Grose who
managed to avoid any broken bones, but has nine stitches to show
for his acrobatics over the handle bars today.

Well

Bubbles who took all the podium places in today's first event of the
season.
Today's Handicap Road Race consisted of five laps over a 7.6 mile course based on the Jurby 10's course in chilly but sunny conditions. The race consisted of five groups going off at intervals of 2.5, 2, 2, 2 minutes respectively. By the end of the first lap the first group away still maintained a gap of over 1.5 minutes over the rest of the field, with the second group only leading the third by about 45 seconds, the fourth group were then a minute further down the road and the scratch group had yet to make in roads on the rest of the field.
At the end of lap two the second and third groups had come together, and were chasing down the leading group, whose advantage was less than thirty seconds, the fourth group were hot on their heels only twenty seconds further away, whilst the scratch group were still a good minute and a half behind. At the end of lap three the field was all together, with the exception of some slower riders who had been left in the wake of the leaders, the scratch group had fallen a further 30 seconds behind, so were trailing by 2 minutes. At the end of the penultimate lap, the positions remain unchanged and the leading group of over 20 riders pressed on. With less than a mile or so to go, Colum O'Shea broke away from the bunch after negotiating the Beehive for the last time and held on to win, easing down by over 5 metres. Bubbles sprinted clear of the chasing bunch for an excellent second, closely followed by Thomas Mazzone. Full results
